Attractive square dish, transfer printed and hand coloured in bright art deco colours of blue, green, orange and yellow, featuring a country scene with hollyhocks and trees and a bird flying across.
The dish is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips or losses to the enamel. It is stamped in brown: Losol Ware Sylvan Keeling & Co Ltd Burslem England, with the number 7395 painted beneath.
Keeling & Co (Ltd) was founded in Burslem in Stoke-on-Trent by George, Joseph and Wilson Keeling and Thomas Keeling Rhodes. It ran until 1936/7. Charlotte Rhead was employed there as an enameller in 1905. The trade name Losol Ware was in use from 1912-1936. The Sylvan stamp states just ‘England’, dating it before 1921 when ‘Made in England’ became mandatory.
