Victorian gilt ormolu frame that would originally have held a miniature painting. The square frame is finely cast in an egg and dart pattern and contrasts with the exuberant flower swags and ribbon which hide the ring hanger. The back is covered in purple velvet.
Charming miniature picture frame with high quality casting and in good condition.
Ormolu is the gilding technique of applying finely ground gold–mercury amalgam to copper, brass, or bronze. The French were renowned for their artistry and technical expertise in producing the finest gilt-bronze.
