A Victorian ceremonial police truncheon stamped with Inspector Laing Banffshire Constabulary. Decorated on the front with the Royal Coat of Arms, and one other unidentified crest. On the back there are stylised golden thistles.
The beehive style grip of the truncheon is in good condition but the rest has significant deterioration to the decoration and finish. It may be showing its age but all the wear and tear makes it very visually attractive and most people find it hard to walk past without stopping and picking it up (the grip is very comfortable).
Banffshire Rural Constabulary existed from 1840 to 1949
