Pair of Chinese Hand-carved ‘Moon white’ Glass Cups, Qing 18-19th century
These semi-translucent cups were designed to look like jade with a soft blue-green tint. They have been hand-carved, as seen by the striation marks under magnification and the subtle variation between the two, most notably in the foot size. The cup has a heavy weight with thickness at the bottom rising to a fine outward turned lip. The glass has tiniest inclusions and imperfections indicative of age. A similar cup can be found in Bristol Museum, Bristol Museums, Object ID:Ea6987.
