A rare finely printed and hand-painted etching and aquatint of two hunting horse and riders, titled ‘Full Cry’ by Charles Bentley (English, 1806-1854) after Henry Alken (English, 1785-1851). The publisher is S. & J. Fuller (English, c.1809-1854)
A couple of tears and historical restorations but colours are bright for its age. No foxing or stains.
Charles Bentley learnt aquatinting under Theodore Fielding to whom he was apprenticed. He went on to became a watercolourist, painting scenes all over Britain, in Jersey, the north of Ireland, and in Normandy. Samuel and Joseph Fuller were well-known printsellers and publishers, stationers, artists‘ colourmen, playing-card makers at the ‘Temple of Fancy‘ at 34 Rathbone Place, London.
An example of this etching can be found in The Art Institute of Chicago.
