Minty was founded by Mr N E E Minty when he opened a shop at 45 High Street (Oxford) in 1880. His first success was the the "varsity" wicker chair which became very popular at home and overseas. At one point it was claimed that every undergraduate in Oxford had one. Another of his popular items was the "Oxford sectional Bookcase" which achieved great success with libraries, lawyers and private households. The company kept going until in 1992 when it went into receivership and was bought by rival firm Cornwell Parker.
