A pheasant desk blotter in bronze with dark brown patina, signed F. Gornik with the AR foundry mark for Arthur Rubinstein in Vienna. The desk blotter is in excellent condition.
Friedrich Gornik (1877-1943) was born in Austria and studied sculpture at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts. He first modelled animals for the porcelain manufacturers, then started having his works cast in bronze. His works are of high quality and can be found in several museums. A naturalistic horse group, die Troika, was bought by Kaiser Franz Joseph I and can be found today in the Kaiservilla in Bad Ischl.
