A Chinese export plate in underglaze blue, featuring a pine tree against lingzhi fungus, bordered by a fence and peony tree, dating from the third quarter of the 18th century. As is usual with Chinese export porcelain, the underneath is unmarked.
In excellent condition. Some kiln grit. No chips or cracks.
The pine retains its leaves in winter and so for the Chinese symbolises strength of character. The peony is a symbol of wealth and honour and the lingzhi fungus is associated with long life.
