A Scottish cast iron umbrella or stick stand by the Falkirk Iron Company, stamped FALKIRK, Pl 258, No 23 and with diamond design registration stamp, dating it to 23 April 1866. The removable tray is similarly marked. Painted blue with pierced formal scrolling foliate ornament.
The stand is generally in good condition with one historical repair to the left upright.
Falkirk Iron Co was established in 1819. The company had its origins in the Falkirk Foundry Co which was set up in 1810 by ‘by some gentlemen of the area‘, employing former Carron Company workers as overseers. It underwent a number of name changes between 1830 and 1864 with different partners until it reverted to Falkirk Iron Co. in 1864. In 1868 it employed 900 men & boys.
