Rajput school gouache watercolour painting of a tiger hunt on elephant and horseback, in the Mughal miniaturist style. Hand-painted on silk with gilt highlights.
The painting is in excellent condition. It has been nicely mounted and framed in a gilt frame.
The Rajput school of art is mainly centred in the towns of Jaipur, Mewar, Kishangarh and Bikaner in Rajasthan. Mughal miniaturists brought their art to the ateliers of the Rajput princely state in the 17th century. They typically depict palace activity, hunting subjects and religious scenes, and are known for their bold colours and strong profiles.
