An early TG Green ‘yellow ware’ mixing bowl with spout. The unusual raised backstamp reads Green & Co Ltd, Gresley with an image of a church.
The bowl is in very good condition. The three indentations on the inside of the bowl are the marks left by the ‘kiln stilt‘. There is scratching to the inside commensurate with age and use.
T.G. Green was founded by Thomas Goodwin Green in 1864. Rumour has it that he bought up the Derbyshire pottery of Church Gresley while on his honeymoon. The pottery is most famous for its striped blue and white Cornish ware, but they also made mixing bowls, introducing a ‘gripstand‘ in 1906. This one does not have gripstand, but is depicted in a catalogue, dating it to between 1918 and 1929.
