A pair of vases with sharp diamond cut globular body and fluted neck in the form of a thistle. This is on a conical foot with star cut underneath. The generous silver collars are marked London, John Grinsell & Sons with the date mark 1897.
The vases are in excellent condition with no chips or cracks.
John Grinsell started his business as Grinsell & Bourne, but when the partnership dissolved in 1871, he started a new business with his sons as John Grinsell & Sons. Their place of production was at Victoria Works, 57 Tower Street, St. George‘s, Birmingham. They had showrooms at 13 Charterhouse Street, Holborn Circus, London and at 73 West Nile Street, Glasgow. The firm specialized in the manufacture of silver-mounted glass, stoneware and ceramic items.
