7 inch olive green Catherineholm enamel bowl with white lotus leaf pattern. This design was made between 1960 and 1965. Unmarked.
The bowl is in excellent condition with no chips or scratches. “White as porcelain—harder than steel!” was a company slogan.
Cathrineholm was a factory based in Halden, Norway. It started as an ironworks around 1827, before moving to enamelware in 1907 and eventually closing down around 1972. One of their most famous designers was Grete Prytz Kittelsen (1917-2010), who is often referred to as the ‘Queen of Scandinavian Design‘. She played a huge part in the Scandinavian design movement and was probably responsible for the shape and bodies of the enamelware. However, she was not responsible for the lotus pattern, which is attributed to one of the workers at Cathrineholm, Arn
