A mirrored pair of Chinese cloisonné meiping vases with dragons chasing the flaming pearl amidst the clouds and waves. The dark blue counter enamel is patterned with gilded copper wire clouds and bordered with band of ruyi around the neck. Both the mouth and foot have been gilded. The underneath is enamelled in teal with no markings. The vases come on carved wooden stands, which are made in two parts.
The vases are in excellent vintage condition with no dings.
Cloisonné is an enamelling technique which consists of soldering to a metal surface delicate metal strips bent to the outline of a design and filling the resulting cellular spaces, called cloisons (French for partitions or compartments) with vitreous enamel paste. The object is fired, ground smooth, and polished.
