A reverse-painted chess board with marbled squares in its original ogee moulded rosewood frame. It was traditional to find these boards hanging on the wall in Scottish taverns.
The stencil and paintwork is in excellent condition. The glass has an imperfection in one corner but it does not detract. The heavy frame is solid. The original hanging devices have been lost, accounting for gaps in the ends of the frame. Modern ones have been added.
