Queen Anne walnut chest of drawers on stand. 2 short drawers over 3 long drawers which are oak framed. Walnut cross banding to sides, top and drawers. Stand is probably later. Handles are period appropriate and have early period fixings (split pins rather than thread and nut - see last picture) but are probably not original to this chest.
A rare and good looking piece of 300 year old furniture of compact and practical size. Stand is later as the originals were very prone to woodworm but this one matches well and has plenty of age. As you would expect from a piece of furniture of this age, there are some signs of historical restoration but nothing that detracts from its great colour and form.
Queen Anne furniture tends to be smaller, lighter, and more comfortable than its predecessors, and examples in common use include curving shapes, the cabriole leg, cushioned seats, wing-back chairs, and practical secretary desk-bookcase pieces." Other elements characterising the style include pad feet and "an emphasis on line and form rather than ornament.
