This is a large shop advertising tin for Mackintosh‘s de Luxe Assortment, John Mackintosh & Sons Ltd Halifax England. The tin is shaped and coloured in the Sheraton furniture style and the underside of the lid is also decorated so that when held open it advertises the individual assortment packets that would have been inside it.
The outside of the casket is in pretty good condition with just a couple of small dings but the inside is quite rusty.
1890 John Mackintosh opened up his sweet shop in Halifax, Yorkshire, and the idea for Mackintosh‘s Toffee, not too hard and not too soft, came soon after. Their most famous product was the Quality Street selection which was launched in 1936. In 1969 Mackintosh‘s merged with rival Rowntree‘s to form Rowntree Mackintosh, which merged with Nestle in 1988.
