A small Chinese bowl with delicately painted Chinese flowers and trees in famille rose colours. In the bottom of the bowl are two peaches, which represent longevity. The brown-dressed rim is slightly wavy. The carefully potted foot rim bears an iron red Tongzhi zhuanshu mark.
The enamels are in excellent condition. There are no chips, but there are three extremely fine hairline cracks. Very fine kiln grit around the mark.
Chinese famille-rose refers to Chinese porcelain decorated with predominantly pink coloured enamel, made from colloidal gold. These colours were known to the Chinese as yangcai ("foreign colours") because they were first introduced from Europe around 1685. The various colour "families" came to dominate production for the luxury market under the Qing (1644–1912).
