A beautifully formed yellow vase of finely levigated clay with an underglaze blue Xianfeng reign mark. The lines of the characters show as ‘hollow lines’ under magnification. This is a feature of many Chinese porcelains from circa 1850 to 1940, where the particles of poorly refined cobalt are pushed by the brush to the outer edges of the stroke. This dates the piece to the Xianfeng period, or a little later up to the Republic period.
The vase and wooden stand are in excellent condition.
