The books are filled with etchings of Edinburgh landmarks. Undated, but the publisher is printed as Cassell and Company, Ltd which came in in 1883.
The books are in very good condition with only minor foxing to the end papers. The pages themselves are clean, the binding is tight and the covers are in good, unfaded condition with some scuffing and rubbing to the corners and spines.
James Grant (1822–1887) was a Scottish novelist. A distant relation of Sir Walter Scott, he wrote some fifty-six novels, including Adventures of an Aide-de-camp, One of "The six hundred", The Scottish musketeers and The Scottish cavalier. Today he is best known as an historian, primarily because of his thoroughly-researched Old And New Edinburgh.
